AdSense-Tips –
Reports
Combined with channels reports are the most important instrument to observe and evaluate the efficiency of AdSense advertisements.
From these reports you can extract the following data that you need to optimize your ads:
- The number of expressions of each ad
- How often an ad has been clicked (CTR).
- Your profit, related to the number of impressions (CPM = earning per 1,000 impressions)

Note
It is very important to use Custom Channels that are related to a single ad block. Only they enable you to get detailed information about each single ad block (look here, too).
Reports can be created over any time period down to a single day. Keep in mind that Google updates reports for the current day only periodically. This means that you don't get really meaningful reports before the end of day, often you will have to wait until around noon of the following day.
If you create reports for channels per day you will be able to know which ad is the most successful one.
In any case you should save your personal reports at Google. make sure that your stored reports have meaningful descriptions. Otherwise you will have difficulties to know what information a report contains.
To learn about the success of your whole website or if you want to compare one page with another one use a report based on a URL channel (look here, too.
This may be very useful because ad blocks may show different success on different pages. E.g. ads on your contact page will most probably be clicked less than those on other pages.
