Google pays you a certain amount for each click on an AdSense ad. This amount depends from the ad itself and may vary from 0 to some dollars.

Which ad is displayed depends from the content of the page on which the ad appears. Google crawls the page's content and decides which ad fits best. Some keywords result in more valuable ads than others.

To get the most from your ads you must take care that most valuable ads are displayed. Therefore you must use meaningful keywords inside your text. Of course you may use very valuable keywords as long as they correspond to your page's content and do not violate the Google AdSense Program Policies.

In any case you should use the meta tags Keywords und Description inside your HTML code to make the most important keywords and a short description of the page content available to search engines.

If you have a Google AdWords account you may find out different keywords' values this way: Create an ad with some keywords and use Google's keyword tool. Google will suggest other keywords, too. Some of them may even be more valuable than yours.

An Example

You prepared a website about trucks and want to extend it with some related content. You enter the following keywords into Google AdWords and get an estimated average cost per click:

From this very simple example you learn that it could be successful to add some pages about cars in general an sports cars, too.

But you never may forget that you write content for your readers not for Google AdSense! The latter would violate the Google AdSense Program Policies and could result in an exclusion from the Google AdSense program.

Too little content may result in inappropriate ads

If ads of non-profit organizations are displayed on your website there may be two reasons:

In the first case you just wait some hours for Google to crawl your website. In the second case you definitely must improve your website's content.

It may happen that Google displays ads that disagree with your site's content. This is the case if the content of the concerning page isn't meaningful; either because the keywords don't fit or there isn't enough content.
